Program Details
Manhattan School of Music’s prestigious Musical Theatre Program is the only stand-alone conservatory program in New York City. Our program attracts professional artist-teacher faculty and guest artists many of whom have created and performed in some of Broadway’s greatest shows such as Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime, Chicago, and countless others. Students receive comprehensive training in musical theatre culminating in a fully-accredited Bachelor’s degree.
MSM Musical Theatre students have many yearly performance opportunities including: Four fully-produced book musicals, one musical in development, Freshman Hello! and Senior Showcase. All MSM productions are directed, choreographed and designed by professional, working theatre artists. In addition we offer professional musical theatre writers the opportunity to workshop material with our students and we encourage students to produce independent performance projects.

Audiences loved MSM Musical Theatre’s recent production of Into the Woods:
Of all of MSM’s musical productions I’ve seen this is my personal favorite. Saw it ~30 years ago on Broadway, and this staging was perfect in every way. From the superb singing talent, not one off-note or hesitation was heard. As well, I particularly loved the costumes by Debbi Hobson, the scenic design by James Rotondo and the music direction by David Loud.
The actors did a terrific job. They all had strong singing voices. The set and effects enhanced the storyline. Manhattan School of Music productions are top notch.
As usual. Manhattan School of Music provided lovers of Stephen Sondheim’s work with a Broadway worthy production of “Into the Woods”. The entire cast sang beautifully with clear diction. The set served the production well. Nia Alsop’s Witch rival the performances of Bernadette Peters and Vanessa Williams.
The Manhattan School of Music’s production of Into the Woods is a delightful and enchanting interpretation of Sondheim’s classic. The cast delivers strong vocal performances, capturing the humor, heartbreak, and moral complexities of the intertwined fairy tales. The direction brings out both the whimsical charm and the darker undertones of the story, supported by clever staging and imaginative set design. The orchestra’s vibrant rendition of Sondheim’s intricate score adds emotional depth, complementing the performers’ passionate storytelling. A must-see for musical theatre lovers!
My partner and I both loved this show. It was very entertaining, and the acting and singing were terrific. The talent here made one feel that you were seeing a preview of Broadway stars in the making. The theater is lovely and it’s easy to get to via public transportation.
Phenomenal production. Really amazing cast, staging, orchestra. One of my all-time favorite theater experiences.
Truly excellent production. Acting and singing and directing and orchestra – all top notch. A Broadway show in every way. The script and score are amazing. So relevant and inciteful.
